Looks like Nikon have found some problems with their EN-EL15 batteries occasionally overheating – but only in the manufacturing factory – not out with users. If you’re concerned about this – they are running a voluntary replacement scheme.

Actually, the sensor had gone and the repair wasn’t viable, so it had already “ceased to be” to be honest.
