Well, I tried my Sigma 10-20 EX DC HSM on my D7000 with Live View mode and found it also has the same problem – it simply won’t focus. I’ve spoken to Sigma UK Support and they’ve confirmed now that both lenses (i.e. 70-200 too) can be software updated – they do not need new parts. I have proof of purchase for both lenses – so it’s only cost £5 each for the software upgrade and the p&p there of course. Turn around should be 2-3 weeks.
So the good news for owners of older Sigma lenses (i.e. not new within the last 6-8 months) is that they can be software upgraded or have new parts fitted to work with the D7000’s Live View mode.

The lens was with Sigma for only about 3 weeks. Just 2 days after posting the lens I got a letter from Sigma to confirm their receipt of the lens, itemising everything they had received.
When I got the lens back, I checked LiveView and it works just fine.
At some point, I’ll post my findings of the lens.
